The Kraft Heinz Company (“Kraft Heinz”) has unveiled today its newly expanded Cairo Food Industries S.A.E. (“CFI”) manufacturing facility in Cairo, Egypt, reasserting its confidence in Egypt and the broader Middle East & Africa (“MEA”) region.
The expansion project, which has seen two billion Egyptian pounds (equivalent to $50 million USD) invested into the factory over the last two years, has resulted in seven new state-of-the-art production lines, a new waste-water treatment unit and a new office block to facilitate increased demand from both local and export markets.
“We’re thrilled to unveil our CFI expansion,” says Ahmed Nagy, Managing Director, North Africa, The Kraft Heinz Company. “With these additions, we hope to at least double production capacity and further set ourselves up to become a world-class export hub for Egypt and beyond.”
The only Kraft Heinz factory in the MEA region, CFI produces the iconic Heinz Tomato Ketchup, Heinz Mayonnaise, and Heinz Tomato Paste, as well as a range of other products.
“Emerging markets are key to Kraft Heinz’s long-term growth,” says Bruno Keller, Zone President, West and East Emerging Markets, The Kraft Heinz Company. “Expanding our presence across the MEA region will bring us even closer to our ambition of leading the future of food.”
The opening was marked with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by H.E. Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, H.E. Hassan El-Khatib, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, H.E. Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, and H.E. Herro Mustafa Garg, the Ambassador of the United States of America in Egypt. It will be followed by an employee celebration before production on the new lines officially begins.
“Behind every product we make is a great team of people who are passionate about what they do – our investment into CFI is also an investment into them,” says Mary Gukasyan, Managing Director, Middle East & Africa, The Kraft Heinz Company. “Egypt is on track to be a global talent hub and we’re happy to support this.”
In addition to the factory expansion, Kraft Heinz has also recently increased local sourcing efforts, with ninety percent of all commodities used in its Cairo factory coming from Egypt and around 2,000 acres of tomatoes grown through local farmers.
“Our founder, Henry J. Heinz once said we must ‘protect the consumer by owning the product all the way from the soil to the table’ – and that commitment is what continues to drive us today as we expand our agricultural efforts across Egypt,” says Ahmed Fahmy, Factory Director, North Africa, The Kraft Heinz Company.
