  •  Generative AI churns out more content than we can possibly consume

The world is on the verge of AI content overload. In the past couple of years, generative AI has progressed rapidly, with some exciting possibilities for the creation of new content. But this fast-paced surge in generated content means that we may soon reach a point of content overload that surpasses the ability of humans to consume, understand, and analyze.

There are numerous ways in which AI-generated content will impact our lives, and it’s important to start considering these now. Are we ready to cope with this avalanche of information? What are the implications, and how are we going to manage them in the future?

Keeping AI-generated content in check

As AI technology improves, the volume of AI-generated content is set to increase exponentially. From news articles, social media posts, and product descriptions to speeches and even academic theses, everything could soon be churned out by algorithms rather than humans. This development can have positive implications such as reduced costs, increased accessibility to information, and faster content production. However, it can also lead to issues such as quality control, misinformation, and potential biases. Therefore, it is essential to keep content in check and perhaps limit the volume of AI-generated content before it becomes prevalently meaningless.

Coping with content overload

When humans are the sole creators of content, we can control its quality and volume based on our abilities, resources and the required quality. Nevertheless, the rise of AI-generated content means that the amount of information in the world is increasing more rapidly than humans can cope with. To navigate this AI-generated content overload, we need to develop new mechanisms to distinguish between quality content and low-quality content.

To do this, we need to ensure that regulations and standards are implemented across industries. With the help of AI, we can create tools that assist in identifying authentic and high-quality content as opposed to fake, misleading, or biased content. Humans can also play a vital role in combating the content overload phenomenon by performing manual tasks like fact-checking, credibility evaluation, and relevance assessment.

The future of AI-generated content

The shift to AI is having significant implications for various industries, jobs, and businesses. Those who embrace new technologies can gain a competitive advantage. However, it is essential that new technologies are developed and implemented ethically in line with human values. In the long term, we must continue engaging in deep, critical discussions on the development of AI-generated content while continuing to make strides in technological advancement.

Consumptive AI is inevitable

With the surge in generative AI content, there is an increasing need to create consumptive AI to ensure that humans can keep up with the deluge of information. Consumptive AI can provide crucial assistance in analyzing and digesting vast amounts of AI-generated content, helping mitigate the challenges associated with content overload. With its ability to extract important information, determine sentiment, categorize data, or even speed up the information consumption capacity of humans in some way, consumptive AI could offer a promising solution for ensuring that humans can consume and analyze generated content efficiently and effectively. Developing and implementing consumptive AI may be the key to ensuring that we can keep pace with the exponential growth of AI-generated content.

As AI-generated content marches towards us, we must shift the way we create, consume, and assess the quality of all content being produced. While content overload remains a potential major issue if we neglect to address it, by working together, we can leverage the power of AI to tackle complex global challenges and pave the way for a more informed, connected and intelligent future.
