International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
The following are the three success stories of Hilton’s women:
Salma Bakr, Learning and Development Manager, Hilton Alexandria Green Plaza, Egypt
Salma Bakr is the Learning & Development Manager at Hilton Alexandria Green Plaza. Salma joined Hilton eight years ago as an HR officer. However, her journey with Hilton started before that when she collaborated with Hilton Green Plaza for her graduation project from Business Administration school. Only four days after her graduation she became a Team Member at the same hotel.
Describing her career at Hilton, Salma says “For 8 years now, Hilton supported me as a person, a young adult and a female to become the experienced L&D Manager that I am today. I am extremely proud that because of my role at Hilton I had the chance to advocate for Diversity and Inclusion and break all the stereotypes in our culture by conducting internships for female technicians in the Engineering department.
This was the first time to have females in the Engineering department, but definitely not the last, as I am sure that Hilton will give me many more chance to create an environment where everyone can thrive and be their authentic selves.”
Ingy Helal, Regional Director of Procurement for Egypt & North Africa at Hilton
Ingy Helal is the Regional Director of Procurement for Egypt & North Africa at Hilton. In 2018, Ingy was one of the 10 winners of the Hilton’s Thrive Sabbatical program, and was granted 1,000 USD in addition to a one month leave to work voluntarily to support a community based project within her region. Ingy chose the UNICEF’s “Meshwary” project as her focus to support mainly young women to become leaders in the Middle East. Her objectives were supporting diversity and encouraging women in hospitality, by offering professional training to a pool of candidates and selecting best calibers to be offered jobs when available. To date, Hilton’s collaboration with Meshwary resulted in training 13 young ladies, as well as offering 13 jobs in Hilton hotels across Egypt. As a result of the success of this initiative, Hilton expanded the agreement with the UNICEF to offer 750 internship and job opportunities in Egypt to the youth over five years.
Ingy started her career at Hilton 14 years ago as a purchasing administrative with a goal set to lead this function regionally by the age of 35, which she successfully achieved through hard work and determination.
