  • JTI is committed to supporting local communities
  • The two-year valuable partnership has supported the economic empowerment of over 100 women so far
  • JTI and Ketharet Dawood NGO’s project targets women between the ages of 18 and 50

JTI Egypt hosted Japan’s Ambassador to Egypt, Hiroshi Oka, in its Nakhla Factory in Menoufia. The visit aimed at highlighting significant Japanese investments in Egypt and confirming JTI’s commitment to supporting local communities through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, particularly in collaboration with Ketharet Dawood NGO.

The factory tour provided Ambassador Oka with in-depth insights into JTI’s production lines showcasing the stringent quality standards, integral to the factory’s operations. It also emphasized the strong relationship between Japan and Egypt through strategic investments and community support.

During the visit, Ambassador Oka participated in the closing ceremony of JTI’s CSR activity with Ketharet Dawood. This project, which JTI has supported since 2021 focused on the economic empowerment of women in the Menoufia Governorate, resulting in providing more than 100 beneficiaries with comprehensive training and development programs.

Commenting on the occasion, Mariana Magdy, General Manager of JTI Egypt, said: “We are honoured to host H.E Mr. Ambassador Hiroshi Oka and demonstrate our ongoing commitment to the Egyptian market and its people. Our investments go beyond business operations; they are about fostering community growth and supporting local initiatives, and this precisely what our partnership with Ketharet Dawood is all about.”

“At JTI, we believe that giving back to our surrounding community is of an utmost importance to us and to our stakeholders. As a top employer in the Egyptian market, we strive to instil these values into our day-to-day operations. From this perspective, it is clear that this partnership is not only between JTI and Ketharet Dawood, but also, on a more macro level, a prime example of the participation and investment that Japan entrusts to us as JTI and in turn to the Egyptian economy”, added Mariana.

H.E Hiroshi Oka, Japan’s Ambassador to Egypt, stated: “I appreciate JTI’s important contributions to the Egyptian economy and creating the job opportunity and I am so proud to be with you in the successful conclusion of this significant project that fostered women development in Menoufia governorate. I believe organizations that support community-level needs like Ketharet Dawood Foundation are essential for Egypt’s development. I would like to take this moment to thank JTI Egypt and Ketharet Dawood Foundation for their excessive efforts in empowering women.”

For his part, Hisham El Gawly, CEO of Ketharet Dawood Foundation added, “Our partnership with JTI has significantly impacted the lives of many women in Menoufia Governorate. Thanks to JTI’s support, we were able to provide vital resources and training to help these women achieve greater economic independence and improve their livelihoods and that of their families.”
